Sunday School

Welcome to the edifying and nurturing environment of Sunday School at the 1st Congregational Church of Stonington!

Upon arrival, 1st Congregational's Sunday School children enter our church with their parents and sit in the pews for the announcements and the beginning of the service. They become accustomed to the practices of attending church for the first twenty or so minutes. During that time they sing hymns with the congregation, listen to a bible reading, and have their favorite time: Children's Time with the pastor. Reverend Lake invites the children to the front of the church where he tells a brief story and teaches a lesson each week. Before the formal sermon, students are dismissed with their teachers to their classrooms.

Our Sunday School includes three groups. The Infant to Preschool group has a cozy sitting area for parents to retreat to with their infants and toddlers. There is also a preschool room for two's and three's to do coloring and Bible-related crafting while they are there. The K to 7th grade class meets in the new classroom in the Parish Hall … close to the kitchen, gym, and parlor. The new bright colors and the beautiful existing mural make an inviting place to bring God’s Word to our children. The Youth Group children (8th grade and up) meet in the Undercroft and upstairs above the Narthex.

Grade school age children from K to teens meet in our separate and newly refurbished (Spring 2011) classrooms in the Undercroft. Two rooms have a divider in case we decide to combine all the children (as in our Easter celebration) for worship and learning. On most Sundays our teachers divide the children into age appropriate groups (K-age 7, Preteen, and Teen) and a positive learning experience is had by all.

We hope you will join us at the 1st Congregational Church of Stonington to experience our Sunday School. Come worship with kindred minds and avail yourself of this great opportunity for your family to form friendships and instill principles that will last a lifetime.

Blessings,
